Personal Counselling

Personal Counselling is a therapeutic process in which the therapist and client work together in a protected, compassionate, and a trusted environment. This type of therapy simply encourages the client to further explore their emotions, personal beliefs, past and future experiences and actions. This type of therapy may encompass career counselling and planning, grief counselling or general therapy which encompasses assisting the client with issues at their core.

Grief and Loss

During this type of counselling, the goal, as a therapist, is to assist the client in expressing their loss as they choose to. Counselling allows a safe and a support filled environment for the client to effectively process their grief process, whilst coming to terms with their loss and possibly finding new avenues to try and cope with this life altering event.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder is a very complex set of reactions to a given traumatic event(s). Having a long- term therapy is particularly important for the client suffering from PTSD, where they can be further assisted in constructing various coping skills and discover many approaches to assist with managing their condition.

Anxiety & Depression

There are a number of evidence-based counselling approaches that works with feelings of anxiety. Some of these approaches include; Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) amongst many others. Each approach varies according to the persons character, the level of anxiety and the trigger for anxiety.

There are several approaches to help treat depression (mild or chronic). These approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy. An integrative approach is sometimes the answer to ongoing therapy treatment for depression. This approach combines appropriate parts of various modalities and approaches.

Trauma & Abuse Counselling

Trauma can be caused by many various situations, events and experiences. One form of trauma is derived from experiencing abuse. This may occur in various forms (for example; psychological, physical, domestic, emotional, financial). Every victim of abuse may require a different form of therapy as remedy. Although, each abuse may differ from one another in various ways, the one thing that does not change, is the unfortunate fact- abuse almost always leaves its victim(s) feeling dis-empowered. Each therapeutic approach may be diverse according to the victim and their unique experience(s).

Counselling Clients with Addictions

Various studies surrounding substance abuse treatment(s) have found that the strong bond and trust between the client and their selected therapist is highly effective. Working within the recovery perspective requires a thorough understanding of the interrelationship between stages of change and the stages of the treatment. It is extremely important that the therapist foster ongoing support and extended duration of care.

Counselling about Child Development and Effective Parenting

During the consultations with the therapist, the parent can set out goals to improve and better their parent- child relationship. Therapists work with parents towards working towards bettering their existing skills to assist their children. Parents can adopt various therapeutic approaches to support their children. Therapy assists parents in setting up realistic and developmentally appropriate expectations for their child/children.
